Embroidered Drawings

Since 1999 I have been working with needle, thread and fabric as my primary medium. My current series, Illustrated Words, utilizes text as imagery and is inspired by my daily work as a graphic designer and my insatiable reading habit. I am interested in the power that a word or phrase has to evoke a place, a memory or a story. I am drawn to the antique linens and doilies with their own unique handcrafted elements and find ways to juxtapose these existing elements alongside my own additions. I use pieces that have been handed down to me from my mother's family as well as old linens acquired at flea markets and garage sales and treasured heirlooms given to me by friends and family.

I will continue to post more work as I complete it and eventually will add a few pictures from past series of embroidered drawings — as soon as I figure out how to wrestle this blog software into submission!
